Community Engagement

The program enjoys strong and enthusiastic school and community support. Past and present funding includes two Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative Schools program grants. “The Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative Schools program funds a select numbers of creative, curriculum based programs throughout Massachusetts on a two year cycle. "These prestigious programs use creative and innovative teaching strategies and methods to deliver curriculum based content in K-12 classrooms in partnership with teaching artists.” Other past and present funders include the Northampton Education Endowment, the JFK PTO, the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, the Northampton Local Cultural Council, the Northampton Education Foundation and private donations.

Celebration of Ancient Greece was honored as one of a small group of outstanding arts and humanities programs selected as part of the 2008 Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative minds tours to highlight the importance of arts education and creative learning for young people in school and beyond. The program has also been featured in the 2007 Sept. - Oct. issue of the Massachusetts Cultural Council newsletter as well as the Springfield Republican and the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

We share our efforts in a showcase in the school community room displaying and presenting student’s academic and artistic work, inviting families, members of the school community, local press, the superintendent, and funders. We also use  local press listings, notices to the school and local community, a display in the school lobby,  articles in the school news letter, and  flyers home to connect to the local community.
